Lovin’ London

_DSC5572_Fotor

This one is really a lot of text but… I think another post with some more pictures will be online like… Tomorrow? I don’t have any kind of wifi at the moment an write this from my phone, which makes typing a bit tricky (so sorry for any kind of misspelling or strange words (they are from autocorrection))…

Anyways… London. London was wonderful, the best vacation I had so far, even better than china because… Well, I was traveling with my dear little miss sunshine, and she really brightens up my day…
We stayed at a place in Thamesmead (via AirBnb), a cosy room in the really neat and modern house of a gay couple… The boys were amazing. We felt home from the first minute in that house and they really cared for us- the tube went on general strike for a day and they ensured we knew what to do and where to ask… They were wonderful… As we arrived at 10pm on our first day, we had no possibility to go and buy something to eat on our way, normally you get your own stuff and are allowed to use the kitchen, that day one of the boys made us omelettes, to insure we get something to eat…
They were really kind and we often sat in the kitchen talking to them until 2am… Discussed things like Greece, love, holidays, AirBnb, Germany and nearly everything you could imagine… I really love them. They are adorable…

And London itself… We were running around quite a lot… especially when the tube was on strike.. But whenever we were unsure how to go on or where to go, we could ask anybody and they’d help us instantly… Some people took us to the places we were searching for instead of showing them to us, which was on the one hand really helpful and on the other hand a huge surprise… We weren’t used to that from Germany… Especially in Berlin it’s very often like ‘maybe somewhere…. like…. there? Or maybe you’ll have to go…. there…’ (waving into random directions, looking bored and totally annoyed) which is really unhelpful when you are lost somewhere. Thats another point: You can’t get lost in London, no matter how hard you try, at least in the city there are sooooo many signs, maps and other kinds of informational things, that you’ll have to do some hard work, to get lost…

But every kindness has limits. Sometimes you (esp. as German) are finding ways to truly annoy brits… We were queuing for the house of commons in the british parliament and a German group was behind us. They spliced and the remaining two women wanted to ask the rest of the group something, so they asked us to hold their places… As they returned, they took their place in the line and the brits behind them were truly upset and annoyed. BUT: instead of shouting or commenting with a huge amount of sarcasm or criticism (as we would do in Germany), they just asked, where we came from, and if that was normal in Germany… As we explained to them how we do in our country and that that’s totally normal there, things were okay. We talked a lot. Greece again (its a big deal at the moment) and were quite good with each other in the end…

And if they start shouting (I heard it only twice) they still sound somehow royal, civilized and nice, while insulting the other person personally 😉

I love London, I like the British, and the language as well, even thought both of us lost our mother tongue somehow after a few days… Thinking in English, talking in English, German was somehow unusable and as soon as we spoke a bit of German we recognized that 😉

But our English was OK, we both speak with British accents, as we learn that kind of stuff in German schools and at least I am unable to reduce that… American English sound somehow weird to me, it’s ok to listen to but I am unable to speak it… The boys realized as well and were quite curious about why we sound like this…

„You speak well, we know, that you are no native speaker but we could’t tell you were from Germany if you would not tell…“

So no german accent here 😉 Which is quite wonderful 😉

We saw many places and you might expect  really mixed kind of pictures: From street, to touristic or more detailed shots- everything found its way onto my memory card…

If you want to have a wonderful place to stay for upcoming trips to London, check out Robert and Antonios’ page for more information an direct booking…
